Parish History

In 1926, a small group of believers who wished to remain faithful to the historic Russian Church founded a house church in Vancouver dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra, on 6th Avenue.
In 1946, Archimandrite Aggei (Mazur) revived the St. Nicholas community under the omophorion of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia — again in a house church, in the home of the Shestovsky family.
In 1950, Archpriest Filimon Gorelik arrived in Vancouver. Through his labours and those of the parishioners, the present church was built on an elevated site at the corner of East 13th Avenue and Prince Albert Street and completed in 1952. In the early 1990s it was enlarged and rebuilt in the shape of a cross.
In May 2026 the parish celebrated its centenary.
St. Nicholas the Wonderworker
St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia (4th century), is among the most beloved saints of the Orthodox world, a swift helper to all who call on him in prayer. His feast is celebrated on December 19 and May 22 (the translation of his relics).
Holy Objects of Our Church
A list of the church's holy objects and venerated icons is being prepared.
Church Affiliation
Our parish belongs to the Diocese of Montreal and Canada of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
